Simulating Spiking Neurons by Hodgkin Huxley Model

چکیده

The Hodgkin Huxley model of the biological neuron is numerically solved in Java, using both an Euler and a 4 order Runge Kutta method. The theory behind the Hodgkin Huxley model is described and the basic spikes are investigated using a graphical program developed by the authors. This is the first step in a long-term goal to develop a tool in Java to simulate neuron interactions on a larger scale. In the future, the authors would like to simulate interactions between multiple neurons, with the aspiration to investigate large-scale neural behavior with visualization and total control of all parameters involved.

Simulating the Behavior of an Integrate-and-Fire Neuron Regarding Different Types of Input

Video-image data can be analyzed and processed in many ways. This paper explores to what extent spiking neurons, which are designed along the Hodgkin-Huxley model, are suitable for this task. The simulations reported in this paper consider integrate-and-fire neurons, constant as well as alternating input currents, and pixel-intensity driven inputs. Currently, the simulation software employs 64 ...

Spiking Patterns of Hodgkin-Huxley Model in Alzheimer’s Disease: Effects Caused by Noise Current

In this paper we study the effect of noise on HH Model. Small-world, regular and random neural networks are the types of HH neuronal networks, which we study in spiking synchronization. External noise and Sub threshold stimulus are subjected to all the neurons. In neuronal membranes we study biophysically realistic HH neurons with intensity of intrinsic noise via voltage gated ion channels. The...

Moment analysis of the Hodgkin–Huxley system with additive noise

We consider a classical space-clamped Hodgkin–Huxley (HH) model neuron stimulated by a current which has a mean μ together with additive Gaussian white noise of amplitude σ . A system of 14 deterministic first-order nonlinear differential equations is derived for the firstand second-order moments (means, variances and covariances) of the voltage, V , and the subsidiary variables n,m and h. The ...

Population encoding with Hodgkin-Huxley neurons

The recovery of (weak) stimuli encoded with a population of Hodgkin-Huxley neurons is investigated. In the absence of a stimulus, the Hodgkin-Huxley neurons are assumed to be tonically spiking. The methodology employed calls for 1) finding an input-output (I/O) equivalent description of the Hodgkin-Huxley neuron and 2) devising a recovery algorithm for stimuli encoded with the I/O equivalent ne...

Simplified models of pacemaker spiking in raphe and locus coeruleus neurons

Many central neurons, and in particular certain brainstem aminergic neurons exhibit spontaneous and fairly regular spiking with frequencies of order a few Hz. A large number of ion channel types contribute to such spiking so that accurate modeling of spike generation leads to the requirement of solving very large systems of differential equations, ordinary in the first instance. Since analysis ...
